ARRL November Sweepstakes

In Contesting by AE4FH

I really enjoyed operating in the ARRL November Sweepstakes this year.  The video above is of me during the contest. One really cool thing is that I talked to the Arctic Circle during the contest.

My siblings and I have the N3FJP logging software and I used the Sweepstakes logging software for this contest. We found out that the N3FJP Sweepstakes logging software has a map that shows you where you have worked. With that we found out that I almost got Worked All States in one day!  That was pretty cool.

My last contact in the contest was WA8Y, and he took time out of working more stations to talk to me until the end of the contest. He was surprised when he found out who I was.  He thought I was using somebody else’s call sign, but when he heard that it was my call and that I had talked at Dayton, he was kind of like “Woo Hoo I talked to the famous girl!” He also said, “My friend won’t believe me when I tell him I talked to you.”

My daddy (WX4TV) helped me with the logging and we tried using two sets of headphones and the handheld microphone from the Yaesu FT-897D. We weren’t able to hear each other talk and we think that Bob Heil should make a headset (my favorite color is turquoise, hint-hint) that has an intercom in it so two operators can talk to each other!

The Sweepstakes was a lot of fun and I had a good time. I hope to see you on the air!
